It's official! With the help of Erik at Back Street Performance in Medina, Ohio, we took 7 new records. We now have the top 4 displacement classes in two categories. C,B,A,AA/GT and C,B,A,AA/GSS. Fastest speed achieved was 179.06. My '02 C5z is full interior with cage, seats, and fire supression The LS6 makes 450whp/400tq with TEA ported heads and EPS 226 cam. Typical drag times on 200 treadwear RT-615's are 11.80's at 123; so I picked up 56mph over the rest of the mile. If you haven't tried it before, it's a pretty good time. Safety is strict, but there are classes for everyone!

Is the mile racing fun for spectators?

Congrats! Sounds like a real successful day. I bet you want to hit 180 though! Haha. You almost hit the formula you told me about in an earlier post: 1/4mile trap*150%.

Thanks man. Yes it's a lot of fun to get to run the car out. As for spectators, it's pretty neat to see the wide variety of machines in the staging lanes. I think we had 135 cars and bikes of many different stripes. A lot of old cars, belly tankers, 80's beaters, etc. The bikes are wild and there are falls every once in a while. We had to stop running Saturday because of 30mph widewind gusts, but Sunday was pretty good. It's kind of an old man's bucket list sport, so you'll see a lot of machines (high and low budget) that have taken years to build and they just keep going a few mph faster every year in some cases.

yeah, 5th gear is perfect so I did a little better. 180 would be the very max I could go without 10 point cage and chute, so I feel everything kind of gelled with this combo. Still, it has me thinking about building a big engine for it and gunning for 200!

Haha in that case you pretty much are exactly where you need to be.
200 would be quite awesome.
I happened to watch a few drag videos this week, one of an SC300 doing a 9.4-ish in the 1/4 and a Supra doing a 8.38 in the 1/4. It's amazing how much faster your trap speed needs to be to hit 1 second faster. It was ~143mph vs. 169mph. That is substantially different from the difference between say a 13 and a 12 second 1/4.
This just came to mind when I got to thinking how much more power it would take to make it to 200.

Yep, that's my buddy Rick Hoback's STS twin turbo car. Hit 202 last weekend!

Yep, my friend Rick Hoback's '99 FRC has full aero and 700 to the wheels at 15lbs of boost. He was stuck at 195 and increased the boost to 24lbs to hit 202. He doesn't want to know what the horsepower is because it's a box stock LS1 and not long for this world.

They don't let passengers ride down the mile, but no problem at other events!

It actually still has ac, heat, all of those things so it could be run on the street. At the same time, it wouldn't be the easiest thing to get in and drive. He takes it out to HPDE's too.
